Passing Off
Definition:
The substitution of one brand of goods when another brand is ordered. (2) Trademark infringement where the infringer intentionally meant to mislead or deceive purchasers. (3) Trademark infringement where there is no proof of intent to deceive but likelihood of confusion is proven.

Definition:
The back of the title page, usually containing the copyright date and other publication information.
Copyright
Definition:
An exclusive right granted or conferred by the government on the creator of a work to exclude others from reproducing it, adapting it, distributing it to the public, performing it in public, or displaying it in public.
Economic Espionage Act
Definition:
A U.S. statute, adopted in 1996, which provides criminal penalties for the theft of trade secrets. The EEA makes it illegal to steal or fraudulently obtain trade secrets for the benefit of a foreign government, instrumentality, or agent and steal trade secrets that benefit "anyone other than the owner."
Patent Cooperation Treaty
Definition:
The Patent Cooperation Treaty enables an inventor to file a single international application in addition to the main patent application filed in a treaty-member country; this simplifies the process of an applicant's seeking a patent on the same invention in more than one nation.
Abandonment
Definition:
An application that has been declared abandoned is "dead" and no longer pending. Abandonment occurs under several circumstances. The most common reason is when the USPTO does not receive a response to an Office Action letter.
